Financial Technology Education Programme: A Tripartite Partnership Across Borders

27 Jan 2019

Financial technology, or Fintech, is a digital revolution disrupting the financial world as we know it. It has changed the way businesses operate, altered our management of personal finances, and even opened up the world of banking, financing and investments to segments of the world’s population that was previously underserved. Moving forward, Fintech holds exciting possibilities for the future.

In order to build capabilities and create a conducive ecosystem for stakeholders such as regulators, industry partners and academics to collaborate on and create FinTech solutions, Temasek Foundation International (TF Intl) and Ngee Ann Polytechnic (NP), in partnership with Indonesia’s Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education (MoRTHE), is delivering a Financial Technology Education Programme that encourages an exchange of knowledge among key stakeholders in the FinTech sphere.

Supported by a contribution of $523,000 by Temasek Foundation International, the cross-border programme will see approximately 180 academic leaders and faculty from Indonesian tertiary institutions working towards the development of Fintech curriculum and capability. Through experiential learning that comprises lab crawls, hackathons, seminars and workshops, the participants will get the chance to interact and share experiences with relevant industry stakeholders. They will also get to visit and network with FinTech developers and users to gain fresh insights into the emerging field, as well as take part in challenges that inspire innovative applications for the financial sector.

According to Mr. Benedict Cheong, Chief Executive of Temasek Foundation International, “The digital economy is disrupting work and indeed, lives. This means that educators need to collaborate to reinvent and update their skills to keep pace with industry developments. This programme will enable educators from Indonesia and Singapore to exchange knowledge and develop new ways to train aspiring youths in financial technology.”
